Decongestant Steam

decongestant steam

Steaming is an old-school method to open the pores, cleanse the skin, and clear your sinuses. I am remembering the movie Guys and Dolls when Adelaide is overcome with emotion after a visit from her man, Nathan Detroit. He still won’t commit to a wedding date after fourteen years (yes, years – you read that right!) of engagement. She is overwhelmed, disappointed, and has a bad, bad cold. After he leaves the room, she dramatically places her face in her steamer, and the scene is ended in a flourish of billowing steam.

Steam is a great decongestant and is powered along with eucalyptus essential oil. A steamer isn’t necessary to achieve great results, and all you need is a towel, a sink filled halfway with hot water, and a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil.

DIRECTIONS

  1. Get your water running very hot before filling the sink.
  2. Fill up the sink halfway with water. If it gets much fuller than that, you may inadvertently touch your chin or nose into the steaming water.
  3. Add 2-3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil.
  4. Covering your head and the sink with the towel, breathe the decongestant steam deeply for several minutes.
  5. Repeat as needed.
